Snack Packaging Expansion Project

Cheme provided staff augmentation to support the project management of a Brand name Snack Packaging Expansion project totaling $5M+ CAD. The project manager’s role is to drive a multi-disciplinary team to plan and implement start-up activities to achieve the project’s success criteria, on schedule, on budget, and help roll out operator/maintenance staff training strategy, as well as provide coordination between the plant’s functions. Cheme’s role was to plan, drive, and execute the project, acting as a liason between the client’s internal departments, and the vendor.

Project Successes:

  • Decommissioning old leg, major equipment lifts, installation of new equipment, and commissioning & qualification done safely while adhering to quality standards
  • New equipment installed and commissioned included a multi-head weigher scale,
Duplex Bagger Machine, Bag checkweigher, Case Packer Machine, interconnecting conveyors, and an X-ray machine was re-used.
  • The installation of this higher speed leg compared to the old leg enables the integrated oven and packaging line to increase its production rate by 18% on the most popular SKUs, in addition to reducing overpack.
  • The strategy implemented built up inventory of product SKUs prior to project installation. The oven produced other products during the installation period (packaged on separate line) and the product line was started up with new equipment without impacting supply chain.
