President: Nik Krpan, M.A.Sc., C.Eng.

As one of the founders of Cheme Engineering in 2006 Nik was instrumental in the start-up of the company and took over as president in 2012. Since then, Nik has led the company through continued growth.

Nik is a frequent speaker at conferences on subjects related to compendial water and is a subject matter expert in the field. He has worked on a variety of clean utility, process, and environmental projects since 2002.

Nik’s personal vision is to lead Cheme in helping our clients successfully achieve their goals while stimulating continuous improvement at Cheme by providing opportunity, encouragement, and guidance in the professional development of our staff.

Nik is a licensed consulting engineer (C.Eng., PEO) and his academic background is from the department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo where he completed his undergraduate degree and master’s degree with a specialization in environmental biotechnology.

Rino Parletta, B.Eng., P.Eng.

Rino has over ten years of experience in providing project management, project engineering and validation services to the Life sciences and automotive manufacturing sectors. Rino’s broad range of expertise lies in cGMP process systems, facilities, utilities, Building Automated Systems, manufacturing and packaging. His tenure at Cheme Engineering Inc. has included experience in design engineering, validation, system assessment and impact analysis, troubleshooting, project cost estimation, construction coordination and project scheduling. Rino is a registered Professional Engineer and received his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from George Brown College.  Rino became a shareholder at Cheme in January 2016.

Melissa Zacher, B.A.Sc., P.Eng.

Melissa is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario and she joined Cheme in 2009 after graduating from the University of Waterloo with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. While at Cheme, Melissa has completed various projects on Clean Utilities, CIP, Building Automation Systems, process and facility systems.  She has acted as an owner’s representative on various capital engineering projects as both a technical lead and project manager.  Melissa has extensive experience in continuous improvement projects including design, troubleshooting, cost and budget estimation, preparing risk assessments, installation coordination, and commissioning and validation.  Melissa became a shareholder at Cheme in January 2016.

Chris Defina, B.Eng., P.Eng.

Chris’s professional experience since 2010, has seen him take on various key roles on several types of projects, including process and plant utilities, processing equipment, waste neutralization systems, bio waste decontamination system and GMP facility renovations. To date, his roles have been primarily focused in design engineering, project management, validation, equipment troubleshooting & construction coordination/execution. Chris completed his Bachelor of Materials and Science Engineering with a specialization in Nano-materials at McMaster University and is a registered Professional Engineer. He takes pride in his ability to establish strong relationships that are built on trust, communication and understanding the unique needs of each client. Chris has been a key member of Cheme since joining the company in 2012 and became a shareholder in January 2017. He looks forward to contributing to the growth and future success of the organization.
